DNC backs all Dems

An Emerson College ePoll released earlier today shows a small lead for a Democrat in Arizona's 8th congressional district. Dr. Hiral Tipirneni leads Republican Debbie Lesko by one percentage point. How do I know this? Am I checking a list of special elections constantly? Am I reaching out to relatives in Arizona? No, of course not. I received an email from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) telling me about this race. This is the same way I, and I assume many other Democrats nationwide received information about some of the other special elections that took since the 2016 election. I doubt I would know who Jon Ossoff and Conor Lamb are, if not for these emails from the DNC. While the organization has received harsh criticism for approximately the past two years (it was hacked in 2016), it does a good job of spreading the word and getting the message out to Democrats nationwide. This specific special election, AZ-08, will be held one week from today on April 24. While the DNC is great at asking supporters for money (which I suppose is the function), and while it does a decent job at informing Democrats about races throughout the country, the fact that this is the first email the organization has sent regarding this election is inexcusable. The party has seemingly started to run someone in every race, but there has to be a level of consistency that we are just not seeing here. The DNC went all in on Ossoff, it went all in on Doug Jones (after Roy Moore accumulated many accusers), and it went all in on Conor Lamb (after he started to narrow the gap between himself and the Republican candidate). The issue at hand here is when the organization should start fundraising and informing Democrats nationally about some of the other races. Every special election should at least appear to have the same level of enthusiasm, and the party should encourage that enthusiasm among voters; regardless of where the election is held or how wide the suspected gap is. This district is a little more "getable" than some of the other ones mentioned in this blog. This was Gabbie Giffords' district and a Democrat was elected after her. Redistricting caused this congressional seat to go to a Republican, who had to step down late last year due to allegations of sexual harassment. Have I seen a single DNC email supporting Nate McMurray? No. The organization may have to wait until after he is officially the nominee (there is a primary to be had), but there has seemingly been no effort to nationalize this race - in a district where the Democrat sorely needs funding to beat Chris Collins. I'm sure the campaign and the DNC are in touch, I would be surprised if there were no plans to do some fundraising, but we are about seven months away from one of the most important elections of 2018, and there has been no word.
